Contracts • Terms of the Contract
K#082
Legal Definition
Under the Parol Evidence Rule, evidence of an earlier agreement is not admissible for the purpose of contradicting or changing terms of a written contract, whether it is a complete or partial integration.
Plain English Explanation
When courts apply the Parol Evidence Rule to parol evidence, the evidence is inadmissible if it attempts to change or contradict any terms in the written contract. In other words, though there are reasons when parol evidence may be admissible, it may not be used to undermine the contract.
