Criminal Law • Excuse of Non-Performance
CRIMLAW#030
Legal Definition
Aggravated kidnapping includes kidnapping for ransom, the purpose of committing other crimes, offensive purposes, or child stealing.
Plain English Explanation
Kidnapping occurs when a perpetrator restricts a victim's freedom of movement and makes it hard for others to locate them, either by hiding them or transporting them somewhere. Aggravated kidnapping occurs when a perpetrator does these things for some additional evil purpose, like a ransom, or committing additional crimes (like rape), or if the goal was to steal a child.
