Fornication is sexual intercourse, or open and notorious cohabitation, by people who are unmarried.
Plain English Explanation
If two people who are both not married either live together or have sex with each other, this is "fornication." In contrast, "adultery" occurs if one or both of the people are married (but not to each other) when they have sex.
